The East Window is in need of very significant repair, but the cost is horrendous. Can you help?
This window was re-modelled in Victorian times, and virtually rebuilt, and
new stained glass put in place.
The original window had five lancets; now it has three. There is an
inscription under the window which reads:
"As a record of the work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope
of the Rev James Vidal,
of this Parish for 26 years, who died at Jerusalem March 15 1875, aged 55 years,
and also of Emma his wife
who died October 23 1869, aged 49, the window above this brass has been inserted
by his parishioners and friends."
All three lancets as shown above need to be removed and repaired; some
painted pieces are very faded
and would benefit from being newly painted. Ideally new church guards need
to be fitted to the exterior.
There is to hand an estimate for all the necessary work: £19,380
plus VAT.
With VAT at 20% this means £23,256. Sadly the VAT cannot be reclaimed.
