Chiddingly Church
This is the weathervane on top of the spire. The initials HM and WL
are probably those
of the Churchwardens at the time it was made.
WL is thought to be William Lashmar, who was Overseer in 1774
and Churchwarden in 1803.
William Chives says that "his sire" helped fix it in place, when the
tower was reconstructed
in 1897 after the lightning strike.
